Concept of veganism and why people choose to adopt a vegan lifestyle
Veganism means to stop taking something that was never yours. People choose to go vegan for mainly three reasons Health, Environment and Ethics.
Purpose of the blog
This blog is all about my journey of becoming a vegan from a brutal meat eater and how you can too go vegan.
I. Personal background
I was born in a village to a middle-class family, and like everyone else, I was brought up in a society that made me think chickens, goats, and cows are here for our use.
Additionally, I was raised in a village where I witnessed cows and their calves being separated by chains, while people extracted milk from the cows.
I was also one of them, and I was fed milk every day along with non-vegetarian meals now and then. I never questioned this because I believed that there are two types of people – vegetarians and non-vegetarians – and both are good. Whether people choose to eat meat or not is a personal choice.
II. Initial awareness and interest in veganism
A. How i became Vegetarian ?
Since childhood, I ate meat but I never had the courage to give it up. I remember every year on Holi, a couple of goats were bought by the villagers and they were fed for a few days before Holi. All the kids in the village would feed them with leaves and mock them, including me. I never had enough courage to witness a goat being slaughtered in front of me, so I always turned my back when it happened. Even when I went to buy chicken, I couldn’t bear to watch. I recall seeing a piece of chicken flesh that was still beating like our hearts do before it was finally packed.
When I reached class 11, I gained some freedom, and you know about the testosterone level of a 16-year-old boy – it’s just 🔥. So, on February 4th, 2022, my friend and I decided to become vegetarians. I had been contemplating this decision for years and had always told my parents that I wouldn’t eat meat after a certain point. However, whenever it was cooked, the smell would tempt me and I couldn’t resist indulging in it. This led me to repeat that mistake again and again. To bid farewell to this cycle, I thought of having biryani one last time. Below are a couple of photos from the event.
The guy wearing the cap is me.
My last Non-veg meal.
I remember on the same date, February 4th, 2022, my father brought goat meat. I had previously mentioned the testosterone level, so I rebelled against my father because if I had eaten that day, then I wouldn’t be writing this blog. I recall being prepared to face punishment from my father.
At last, my father had to take back his steps and I was now a vegetarian.
Now, it wasn’t easy for me to continue being a vegetarian as my family had four members excluding me, and all of them ate meat. Despite my constant temptation to eat meat, whenever they brought it home, I would watch slaughter videos to keep myself motivated.
Every time I went to my Village all my villagers made tons of talk and mocked me and I was fed up with that they told me that after I get married you will have to eat non-veg and all that shit but I was determined.
Now if at that time anyone told me to go vegan I would have broken his/her skull because at that time I didn’t know about the torture and slaughter of milk, leather, wool, silk, honey etc industry animals.
Also at that time, I didn’t give an f** about my health or impact on the environment.
Mainly I used to watch ” MEAT HORROR ” by the kinder world and that kept me motivated especially for the initial few times.
B. How I became vegan ?
I was too attached to Kheer and Sewai, this could be proved by the fact that most of the time my mother made Kheer and sewai for dinner and when the kheer sewai were left there took a competition between me and my brother to wake up next morning and eat it.
For that, I have waked up at the midnight to eat before my brother woke up.
Kheer, Sewai, Sabudana, and Sweets were my life.
After I went vegetarian Kinder World suggested I become vegan all that conversation screenshot is attached below.
I hope it’s clear after uploading and see what logic I gave to the kinder world the best part is that there is only one reply with a video link that changed my life if they did ignore that message of mine I would have been a vegetarian till now.
So, Thanks Kinder World.
So the day was the 14th of September 2022 morning when I decided to go vegan.
That day my mother had made Kheer in the morning and when she told me to eat and I neglected it she thought that I some doing some kind of joke but what happened next is history…
III. Early challenges and obstacles
Some of the initial challenges of being a vegan were being trolled and mocked by my parents and relatives. Everyone in my village started saying that I have become a saint.
Everyone individually came to me asking about it.
Also, I was the first in my village and amongst my relatives who told them what Veganism means.
The crazy part is that I have never seen a vegan in person.
I then started to explore the vegan community and I got many of them including Peta, Kinder World, Arvind Sir, Abhishek Sir, Robin Sir and many others.
IV. Embracing the vegan lifestyle
After I went vegan I started noticing some visible changes I was getting more mental peace and I was going to the toilet around 4 times but this has now significantly reduced to 2 times but it’s normal.
Also, I regularly post stories and status inspiring people to go vegan but yeah I am trolled now and then.
Also, I have made all 4 of my family members vegetarian. See how
My birthday was on 29th November last year so I just asked my mother to become a vegetarian and on that day I didn’t expend a single rupee.
I then made my younger brother afraid by showing him all the people who recently died of heart attacks that also included my grandfather and my aunt, because fear of death can make anyone quit meat.
After I and my brother and my mother left meat my father had no option than becoming a vegetarian.
I will give them some time to cope and then will try to make them vegan.
Note: I am not a vegan anymore, I failed to cope up with it. I now follow a veganish lifestyle.
