I watched Naval Ravikant podcast with Joe Rogan[ Here is what I learnt ]
If anyone wants to grow then watching podcasts, Courses and getting coached might be on his list. I too love watching these. I have heard a no. of times people saying that watch Naval Ravikant, He will teach you more than a University. Let’s find out where those people are true.
I had binge-watched a lot of web series. Now it’s time to tune in to some podcasts. The first problem I faced was that I freaked out seeing a 2-hour long podcast but to make up for the hype I had to consume this.
Let’s get started.
If you don’t yet know who Naval Ravikant is, here is his Wikipedia profile.
Here comes the first one —
You have one life just do everything you want to do
This line hits differently. I am 18 and it seems cool because I have much time left when compared to other people in my field, but again it hits differently when you see that you have lived more than 25% of your life and the time you spent will not come again. The last few decades of your life don’t have that energy that one has in his young days. A man in his 20s and 30s posing with a Lamborghini looks cooler than a man in his 60s. So, wherever you are in your life, get up and work for and on your dreams.
Read the best 100 books over and over again until you absorb them rather than reading all the books once
So, I was the one who was fascinated by people who posted their pictures on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms showing that they are bookworms and how indulged they are in reading books. It seems like they have opened a library in their house only. This fascinated people like me. Naval here says that those people are showing off and that he would rather read the best 100 books again and again until he absorbs its information rather than reading all the books at once. This was literally thought-provoking for me.
Your attention span is not low, you can multitask very well
Naval here brings up a topic which is trending a lot nowadays which is about the reducing attention span of youth. Creators are seeking ways to get past this lower attention span problem. They are trying different different hooks in their videos, Posts be it LinkedIn, Instagram or any other social media platforms. Contrary to the majority belief he says that our attention span is not too low instead we can multitask well. We can shift from this social media platform to that and we can complete and work on multiple projects at one time. This thought too was thought provoking as people target Gen — Z for this.
Be rich and anonymous not poor and famous
If you are not living under the rock then maybe you know how many people are seeking popularity either by making cringe content on Instagram or YouTube. Creating vlogs is at its peak nowadays. Every other boy or girl wants to become famous. For this Joe represents his thoughts on how he loved his newly gotten fame, People wanting to take selfies and hooting and then he starts hating when that fame enters his personal life. I too thought the same about getting famous but after hearing other people’s experiences I had to rethink and I came to the conclusion that I would prefer becoming rich and anonymous rather than being poor and famous.
Don’t make many desires make only one overwhelming desire
What does this mean? It means that having a lot of dreams and desires can dilute your work. Naval here says to work on one of your overwhelming desires that doesn’t let you sleep at night and excites you whenever you think about it. It can be anything, hitting a personal goal, getting a job in your dream company or building your own empire. It’s your life you can build it In whatever way you want to. Personally speaking, my overwhelming dream is to earn enough so that I could fund my dream of travelling full time forever and writing is my stepping stone.
Meditation is a powerful thing everybody must experience
When I was in my class 11th I meditated for around 3 months and I could see the difference that I was having more control on my mind. I was able to leave Meat and become a vegetarian. At a point of time I also became Vegan [ later discontinued ]. Meditation is a practice that is followed from ages. You aren’t required to become a saint or monk to practise. Just sit at a place, close your eyes and focus on your breath. I know it could be intimidating at first but believe me it’s worth it.
Happiness is a choice, so be happy
During the whole podcast I watched Naval smiling and being happy. I thought that it was natural and it’s his nature to talk like that but when he said that Happiness is a choice and you can choose to be happy. It indeed is and I am a living example of this. At a time when I left my home and fast forward to a day when I had the last 2 rupees remaining I was chill. It was the question of my survival but I chose to be calm and happy because dying in anxiety won’t help either.
Every man has two lives, and the second starts when he realises that he just has one
This again relates to the first point that we discussed. This hits way too hard. When I was in Class 11 I suffered from depression and anxiety and I only know about the countless nights I cried and slept thinking that I only have one life and a day will come when I won’t be In this world. All my legacy, wealth, and relations will be f******* up. You too if you aren’t happy with your life then get the f*** get out of your comfort zone and work for your dreams.
Sound smart
The no. 1 way to be smart is to sound smart. To be confident in an Interview act confident. If you aspire to be a doctor, think and act like a doctor. If you don’t sound smart then you will be taken advantage of and will be thrown away. You will be like a sucked Mango. No one will care.
Make your hourly rate, don’t do anything that doesn’t justify it
Another thing he discussed was taking out your hourly rate. You don’t need an exact figure. Just divide the total money you earned in your last month by the total hours you dedicated to the work and never ever do something that doesn’t justify your hourly rate. Just outsource it. Always trade money for time because one of them is non-renewable. So, choose your thing wisely.
These were the Ten things I learnt from Naval Ravikant and you can too.
I personally recommend you to watch the podcast If you haven’t.
